Guide
Cheapest filament for the Bambu Lab AMS
Which filament works in the AMS, by Bambu's own rules, and the cheapest of each type from the stores FilaNexus tracks.
Short answer: The cheapest 1 kg PLA spool we track is Inland PLA 1 kg (Black) at $12.99/kg. Any 1.75 mm PLA, PETG, ABS or ASA can be used in the AMS if the spool fits: 50–68 mm wide and 197–202 mm across. Avoid TPU and third-party carbon-fiber blends, and fit cardboard spools with an adapter ring. Bambu's own PLA, which has RFID tags, is $18.99/kg.
Cheapest AMS-friendly filament, by type
TPU and third-party carbon-fiber blends are left out because Bambu advises against them in the AMS. The RFID column is the cheapest spool from a brand that tags its spools, so the AMS reads the material and color automatically.

Bambu's AMS filament rules
- Spool size: 50–68 mm wide and 197–202 mm in diameter.
- No flexibles: TPU, TPE and absorbent PVA can get stuck in the feed tubes.
- No third-party fiber blends: carbon- and glass-fiber filaments can wear the PTFE tubes or snap. Bambu's own CF filaments are the exception.
- Plastic spools are best. For cardboard spools, Bambu strongly advises an adapter ring to stop slipping and debris.
From Bambu Lab's AMS notes. The AMS lite has its own spool limits; check Bambu's wiki for your model.
How these prices are worked out
Every price is divided by the net weight of filament in the pack, not the shipping weight, so a single spool and a 10 kg bundle can be compared on the same scale. Multi-spool tier discounts and minimum-order coupon codes are applied at the quantity you pick, which is why the cheapest option changes as you buy more. Prices marked unconfirmed haven't been re-checked recently and are ranked below the rest. More on the method.
Bambu AMS filament questions
Can I use non-Bambu filament in the AMS?
Yes. Bambu recommends its own filament because it is tested with the AMS, but any filament on a spool 50–68 mm wide and 197–202 mm across can be loaded. Without RFID tags you pick the material and color by hand in the slicer.
Can you use TPU in the AMS?
Bambu says to avoid flexible materials such as TPU and TPE in the AMS because they can jam in the feed tubes. Feed TPU from the external spool holder instead.
Do cardboard spools work in the AMS?
They can, but Bambu strongly advises fitting a spool adapter ring so the cardboard doesn’t slip or leave debris inside the AMS. Plastic spools are recommended.
Is carbon-fiber filament OK in the AMS?
Bambu's own PLA-CF and PETG-CF are made to work with it. Bambu advises against third-party carbon- and glass-fiber blends, which can wear the AMS tubes or snap.
