How we check prices
A price comparison is only useful if the prices are right. Here is exactly how FilaNexus keeps them that way.
In short: 65 of the 72 prices on FilaNexus are read straight from the store every four hours. Every day, a separate check looks up what each store link actually lands on and confirms it matches the price we show. Prices we can't read automatically are checked by hand every week, and anything not confirmed for 8 days is marked and ranked last.
1. Live store prices, every four hours
For 65 offers we read the price directly from the store's own product data, every four hours. That covers 10 brands across 10 US stores, mostly each brand's own shop. Each read is stored, so every live-tracked price also gets a price history: the daily low for up to 400 days, shown on the price pages as "lowest since tracking began" or "−X% vs its 30-day median".
2. A daily check that the price matches the link
Reading the right price isn't enough if the link opens the wrong product. So once a day a separate check takes every live-tracked store link, works out which product and variant it actually lands on, and compares that price with the one we list. It catches:
- Wrong variant: a link that opens a different size, color or region than the one priced. On launch week this check found product links that opened a European variant up to 18% dearer than the US price we showed, and fixed all of them.
- Price drift: a sale ends and the page now asks more.
- Sold out or gone: the variant is out of stock, or the product page has moved.
Anything it finds is fixed before it's treated as resolved.
3. Hand-checked prices, every week
7 offers come from stores that block automated reading. Those are checked by a person, in an ordinary browser, every week. Each row shows the date it was last checked. If a price hasn't been confirmed for 8 days it's labelled unconfirmed and drops below every confirmed price, so it can't win a "cheapest" badge on stale information.
4. The maths: price per kilogram of filament
- Net weight, not shipping weight. A "1.3 kg" listing is often a 1 kg spool plus the reel and box. We use the filament.
- Pack size and minimum orders. A spool you can only buy six at a time is priced as six, and says so.
- Discounts at the quantity you buy. Bulk tiers and coupon codes are applied when you'd actually qualify for them.
- Sign-in prices never headline. Member-only and sign-in prices are shown separately and never used as the cheapest price.
5. New products are verified before they're listed
Twice a week FilaNexus looks for products and pack sizes it doesn't list yet. Nothing is published from a catalog alone: each new price is confirmed against the live product page first, and anything that can't be confirmed (an unstated net weight, a missing diameter, a region-only variant) stays off the site until it can.
6. Rankings are never for sale
Some store links may be affiliate links, which can earn FilaNexus a small commission at no cost to you. Offers are always sorted by price per kilogram; no brand or store can pay to rank higher. See the affiliate disclosure.
